Summertime in the (2nd) city. Again.
Look at that crowd for the Pat Benatar and Blondie concert at Ravinia on Sunday! (The background music is the opening group, The Donnas). [links open in a new window] [clip is 24 seconds long]
Incredible!
Everyone brings a picnic and libations of their choice then sets up on the grass. The setups have gotten pretty competitive. Those are real candles, folks. And when they burned out later, there were replacements!

The only potential problem was a 60% chance of rain but it missed us.
Security, on the other hand, didn’t miss me and my camera so all I’ve got is a few seconds of Pat Benatar on stage [18 sec]

http://www.veoh.com/videos/v189415917jwrQpjSIt was all terrific!
And Monday was another Botanic Garden freebie, the latin sounds of Fernandez and Kimball. This is slightly longer than the usual clip and will take longer to load but worth waiting for. [1m 19 sec]

Chau.
wow, I would have loved to see that concert! what fun and nostalgia! Fernandez and Kimball sounds amazing…aaahhhhh beautiful.
Hey Hal:
Looks as if you’re having a great time. The clips are fun and I love the photo of you and Nicole!.
Rock on, Mr.
PS
Chicago is definitely the place to be for music. And that photo of the buildings from the water taxi was superb (last group). You, Nicole and Jeff (and Lucile) are inspiration for us to get out to festivals more!
Lara, do you have any specific projects for burning man? Do you tent? Tell us more.
Cheers. MK
Hi Marilyn! We do tent, yes, no RV’S for us! Here is a video of our camp last time:

We actually can’t do any projects this year because we’re saving money for a townhouse, but we’ll surely help others with their projects, and I’m going to make it a project of mine to do photography out there that I hope to get into an art show soon. :) so we’ll see!
If you do come out one summer, note that Ravinia and the Botanic Garden are about 25 miles north of downtown Chicago. That’s great for us because Nicole and Jeff live about 30 miles north of Chicago so the music is right next door.
You’re becoming quite the “Festie”. Sounds super & the picture of you & Nicole is beautiful. I’m enjoying living vicariously through you. Lor got here yesterday & today we did three Fringe plays. Got tomorrow & Friday booked for 6 more.
Forgot to mention – I definitely would like the sesame dressing recipe that went with the tuna. We eat a lot of fish (despite the heavy metal warnings). Which concert or festival are we all going to next?
Tonight is George Thorogood (“Bad To the Bone”).
Saturday is Taj Mahal (guitar).
Next Tuesday is Elvis Costello, all at Ravinia.
In between, we’ll be hitting the Botanic Garden at least a couple of times a week and Navy Pier on Sundays.
Such much to do, so little time [sigh] :-)
I will send the recipe – it was really, really tasty – but tomorrow as we’re heading out in a few minutes.
